MATES in Mining is an Australian not for profit organisation that delivers an integrated program of workforce capacity building and support, utilising training as a tool to raise awareness about suicide and mental health in the mining industry. Suicide is a complex issue but there are protective factors that make us more resilient and can reduce suicidal behaviour, including supportive social relationships and positive connections to good health and support services. MATES in Mining is an evidence-based suicide awareness and prevention program for the mining industry. The MATES Program is adapted to mirror safety structures onsite and engages the entire workforce in providing a mentally safer and healthier workplace. MATES in Mining support workers through our peer support training program, upskilling workers with the tools to notice when a workmate needs support and giving them practical skills on how they can get that person to support. MATES in Mining also provides free Case Management for clients that call through to the MATES 24/7 Helpline: 1300 642 111.

The Curtin Bystander Project offers training both in Western Australia and internationally. Our mission is to raise awareness about how abusive behaviours are ingrained in our culture and to address the subtler dynamics that foster potentially harmful environments. Through our programs, we seek to challenge the fundamental attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours that perpetuate violence against women, inequality, racism, discrimination, and bullying in society. We understand that meaningful change starts with open conversations about the context and dynamics of all forms of violence.

While you may recognize that violence and discrimination conflict with your values, how often do you engage in deep, interactive discussions on the topic? Our violence prevention programs provide a safe, supportive space for participants to share their views and personal experiences with problematic behaviours, shedding light on issues that are often overlooked or unspoken.
